Child talk

I heard from a speech therapist the other week that she had read an article regarding the amount we talk to our children.  According to this article, on average, children from wealthier upbringings hear 30 millions more words by the time they reach schooling age, than those of less priveledged homes.  That's not 30millioms different words, but 30 millions spoken words.

That got me to thinking how many words I speak to Noah a day.  I am constantly talking to him and he chats away to me in his gurgley coos and ahhs.  I don't talk sense sometimes and I often am probably not giving him totally the correct information, but I think it's really important to talk and to let your child join in the conversation.

Ever since I clocked myself talking all the time to Noah I have noticed other parents and the conversations they have with their children (or lack thereof, which is an unfortunate reality on my bus into town more often than not).

Whilst listening to these conversations it quite often sparks a little smile, as conversations with children can be thought provoking and genuine.  I often find new vocab is created that will probably stick with that family forever.  I thought I'd share with you some that made me smile....

Mummy to son 'blimey I'm hungerarma today'

Daddy to daughter 'no silly, I'm not sure anyone can actually live in the road'

Son to mummy 'I think You are kind and you are nice mummy', mummy back to son ' and I think you are kind and nice too alfie'

Beautiful Boutique

I popped into Cuckfield the other day to see my friend and went into the gorgeous baby boutique, Willo.

Although it's very tiny they have some gorgeous bits and I could resist getting Noah some great bits for the summer.

I think my fav is the baby grow from Mini a ture, the blue pattern is so so cute and even though it's a size to big Noah is already wearing it (at £19 he will be getting as much wear out of it as possible!!!)

Say Cheese!

I celebrated my birthday back last week and got a fantastic surprise from my best friend who sent me a box of the most fabulous cheese and pickle from Pong.

I got 4 fantastic soft cheeses and a jar of pickle and G and I spent the evening gorging ourselves once we had put the boy to bed. A lovely glass of red and some gorgeous soft cheese and crackers and we were set!

Healthy Start

My post pregnancy bod is starting to get me down so I am making a conscious effort to try and eat healthier and do more.

I was so scared when I fell pregnant that I would put on all the weight that I tried so hard to lose back in 2012-2013.  I had just go to the weight I wanted and was fitting into Zara clothes and top shop clothes for the first time ever which has really boosted my confidence.  At the end of the pregnancy my fears were realised as I weighed in at the biggest I have ever been.

It was hard work before and I was training for the marathon so that helped with the motivation, but this time around I know I can do it, and I know how the end goal feels!

I have signed up to some new mum baby classes up at the children's centre which started this week and have tried some new healthier food combinations.

Today I tried bagel with hummus, avacado and black pepper! Soooo tasty :!

Birthday Wish List

Candle - Juliette at Home

My 29th Birthday is fast approaching and I've been trying to think about what I might like.  I've spent the last 3 months in a baby daze and haven't had a chance to think much about myself.

I'm normally one for writing a huge birthday wish list but this year I've found it hard as with a baby and all the stuff they aquire I don't want to fill the house with more!

It would be nice to have an hour or 2 to spoil myself so having someone take Noah so I can get my hair or nails done would be brilliant.

Other than that here are some of the things that have made it onto my list this year....

Jacqueline Fossil Watch

Necklace - Zara

Converse All Star Oxford Trainers in Burgundy

Gorgeous Summer drink - St Germain Elderflower Liquor and Champagne

Blog Loving

I think my real passion for blogging came after finding Cupcakes and Cashmere a few years back and, in doing so, I finally found someone who really inspired me.

I think the thing with Emily Schuman is, that although she is much skinnier and lives in beautiful California, she has very similar colouring and style likes as me.

When I started writing the blog I wanted a way to share everything that I do.  People often asked for recipes, or 'how to' of DIY bits and bobs, or commented on my outfits.

I wanted a platform where I could share all things cool, but also somewhere to have a quick ramble.

I get a bit depressed sometimes and I find it easy to forget how good I have things, and how much I do get up to.

I've been so inspired over the last couple of years and have found some fantastic blogs that I really relate to.

Check out these fantastic bloggers and see what you think...

Things For My Boy

£29.95

As we didn't know the sex of our baby until he was born, we had a wardrobe full of cream, grey, yellow and white.

I couldn't help but drag Noah and G to the shops on day 3 to stock up on some boy specific clothes! I've since been enjoying buying things I saw when I was pregnant but didn't get.

Here are some of my loves from the past 8 weeks...

The Sun is Shining

Necklace - Cos, Sunglasses - Cutler & Gross

What a glorious day! It feels more like summer than spring so noah and I spent the whole afternoon outside.

I pottered in the garden tidying the flowerbeds, made interesting tree decorations (see below), and caught up on some reading on my kindle, while he played with his toys in the pram.

Here's to more gorgeous sunny days like today.

Quinny Pram and Jaques the Peacock from Lamaze

My fav Cath Kidston Cowboy print mug and Kindle Case from Joules

Beautiful Tulips that need weeding!

Interesting twig tree decoration with Kirstie Allsopp ribbon from Hobbycraft

Boho Breakfast

This past weekend for Easter I headed back to my parents house in Canterbury.  On Saturday my sister and her boyfriend took Noah and me for Breakfast to Cafe Boho on Canterbury High Street.

We headed there for late breakfast so by that point I was pretty peckish.  I knew I fancied scrambled egg and smoked salmon, but wanted a bit more! I added black pudding and hash brown...why not!

The food was ace and I love the funky mix of crockery and the bright, jazzy interior.

Thanks Kristian, the owner, for the entertaining chats!

Wedding Season

My Cousin is getting married in May and we are travelling to Newcastle to celebrate with them.  This year, not only do I need a lovely outfit for my post pregnancy/breastfeeding body, but I get to pick out something lovely for Noah.

As he is growing so quickly at the moment I didn't want to spend loads on an outfit, as he really will only get one wear out of it.

I am so pleased with this fantastic little set from H&M at £7.99! What a bargain and so totally cute!

Becoming a Mummy

On Friday 23rd May, only 4 days after posting about wanting to start a family, I found out I was pregnant - maybe I knew!

A mixture of fear, shock, and dread ran through me initially, as this certainly wasn't the plan for the next year or 2.

But I am so thoroughly delighted to say that on 30th January at 10:37 G and I welcomed our beautiful little boy Noah into our family.  I have now become one of those people who has become consumed by all things baby!

After a pretty good pregnancy, a trapped sciatic nerve for the last 2 weeks (meaning I was totally house bound), a pretty easy, drug free labour, and 8 weeks getting to grips with being a mummy, I want to start blogging again.

I absolutely adore being a mummy. I feel I  have learnt so much already and am looking forward to sharing it with you.

Bon Bebe

My sister sent me a link to a fab baby website that I had never heard of before, Vertbaudet

I am dying to try some of their bits and bobs. Loving the European style to the cute little bits, and it's not too ridiculously priced.

Noah will most certainly be wearing some uber cool things from here!

Baby Bag - Storksak Surprise

Just before Christmas my sister surprised me with this gorgeous Storksak Tote bag for the baby.  I was really keen to have a bag that looked like a handbag and not like a big clumpy baby bag.

I knew that as someone who always carries a massive handbag, this would contain as much for me as it would for the baby.

I was delighted with this bag and even better she had stocked it with loads of newborn essentials which have come in super handy.

The bag comes with a changing matt and definitely enough pockets to keep your stuff separate from baby's.  There is an insulated pocket on the outside for a bottle and loops on the strap for attaching to your pram.

Perfect!
